Round 2 of the redline time attack series brought us to willow Springs International Raceway in Rosamond CA. I burned up the limited slip during round 1 at buttonwillow. Unfortunately I wasnt able to find a replacement in time for round 2. This left me at a huge disadvantage as I am already running a stock motor in modified class.
Saturday testing goes as planned, and the car otherwise is handling very well. On Sunday the track is pretty hot, and I'm not able to improve my times over Saturdays morning practice. My first time attack session came, and the cars handling wasnt anywhere near where it was on Saturday. After I pulled back into the pits, I found the problem. My right front tire was half bald all the way to the belts. The left front wasnt that far behind. The car not having an lsd took a much harder toll on the tires than I anticipated. Unfortunately this is the only set of tires I have, so I decide to skip the last practice session, rotate the tires to the back, and hope to drive faster in the last time attack. As soon as I start my final time attack its clear that I wont be improving my my lap times with the car oversteering so much, and locking up the tires on braking.
I end up getting 4th in class, whitch was very disappointing to me. I was 6/10ths of a second off 3rd, so if I had better tires for a few more laps, I feel confident I would have gotten 3rd. In the end, my team and I did the best job we could considering what we had to work with. Now its off to Spring Mountain in Pahrump Nevada, where the car will have some new sponsors that are going to help me get back on the podium...
