Since this car is a street car / track car when it came to safety I had to try and keep it so that the car will be functional both on track and off. This can be tricky with OEM SRS equipment.

The 2nd Gen Mini Cooper has a TON of SRS stuff that needs to maintained to keep the SRS system working.

1) Seat Position Sensor (on the OEM seat rails)

2) Side Air Bags (built into the seats)

3) Passenger Weight Sensor (built in the passenger seat)

4) Seat Belt Pre-Tensioners (part of the OEM seat belt set up)

So my first safety mod was bucket Pole Position Seats. I got the full leather ones as it never hurts to put a little style in function and with the red stitching it works perfectly with the theme of the car:




To keep the seat position sensor I pick up some BK seat brackets that allowed me to mount the seats to the OEM sliders. The only down side is these are made for the older mini and the holes have to be slightly slotted. Not a huge deal, but just more work.



My goal was to keep the SRS system working. So to do this I had to solder in some resistors in place of the side air bags and in the seat, and un-upholster the passenger seat and remove the weight sensor. This was a MAJOR PIA, but in the end was worth it. Only down side is there is no way to sell my old passenger seat.

After reassembly of everything it looked like this:





I made sure to run the seat belts though the seat holes so that in case of a accident I didnt slide out under them.

Also but keeping the SRS in tact the drivers side and passenger air bags work as well as all the curtain ones.
