MPT Super Time Attack 2008 Round 1

Press Release by: Mpt Motor Trading Singapore:

Sepang International Circuit, saw a ferocious battle between Desmond Soh (WRX) and Mitchell James Fancourt (EVO 9).

This year witnessed a vast improvement on the most of the timings as compared to last year. The organizers believe that this was due to the numerous practice opportunities from other club events being put in place for the drivers.

The EVO 9 driver, Mitchell, lapped an amazing 2:16.553, which smashed his last year’s record of 2:54.071 when he took part with his Lotus Elise. Team Director, Mr. Lawrence Lee gave full credit to his team as they broke their personal record by 1 second. The previous record, 2:17.5 was also set by Mitchell in his EVO 9.

However, James timing could only attain second place as Desmond’s WRX whizzed past the finishing line 0.8sec (less than a second) faster with 2:15.690sec. Soh’s timing also earned him the F.T.D (Fastest Timing of the Day) award for the Turbo Category – Class 1A. Following in Class 1B, Derrick Ang (EVO 9) proved too fast as he recorded his best timing of 2:25.441sec with semi-slick tyres. Coming in 3secs behind him was Kenneth Lin and Eddie Ng, also EVO 9 drivers, with 2:28.266 and 2:28.890 respectively. Finishing off forth and fifth positions was Noel James Archer Jago’s WRX and Kevin Sim’s EVO 9.
Moh Tze Yang and his EVO 9 claimed pole position in Class 1C when he finished off 3.553secs ahead of 2nd place EVO 9 driver, Steven, with 2:32.083sec. Gerald Tan only managed 3rd place with 2:39.366 in his WRX

There was light downpour during the run for N.A category. However, Eddie Ng still muscled his ability with his prized Honda DC 5 as he clocked 2:32.973sec in Class 2B on semi-slick tyres. His timing also allowed him to bag home the F.T.D award for N.A category. His closest competitor, Tan Aik Sim, managed 2:41.240sec for 2nd position. It was full of actions in N.A Class 2C. Luke Netto’s DC 5 type R overtook Adam’s BMW M3 by less than a second with 2:52.907sec against 2:53.790sec. In an unfortunate event, Low Wei Der’s Porsche GT3 slipped along the wet surfaces but still manage to finish his laps with a minute behind.

In the Open class category, Class 5, Derrick Ang’s improved timing of 2:24.809 proved no match for Solofuson Alain Michel’s WRX as he went past the finishing line after 2:21.125sec, thus acquiring pole position.

Lai Wee Sing’s magnificent run of 2:26.599 in his Honda DC 5 could only fall for 3rd placing in Class 5. His timing could have earned him the F.T.D – N.A award should he had been able to take part in Class 2
