Snow (and lots of it)

Man, don't know how many are from the Northeast or DC area but we got hammered. I was here for the 1996 blizzard and this was worse. This is pretty much how most streets look especially in neighborhoods.

haha yeah its hilarious driving places that cant deal with anything except sunshine

i went to school on long island and we got 11 inches in one day last year and you wouldve thought the apocalypse was occuring...we took roomies wrx out for fun time and i think we saw more cars on their roof than on all 4.

I wish we caught some of the stuff hitting you guys, if its going to be cold and cloudy we might as well get a blizzard so we can at least have some fun, but this year weve been going in cycles where we get a foot or so then it melts...I havent seen anything like it as long as Ive lived here.

officially were at something like 73 inches for the year, by this time last year we had around 125.

My major professor went to Syracuse. I guess you guys do get some snow but not like Buffalo. A lady told me the other day her mother tried to get her to move back home to Erie, PA. She thought about it until she remembered the average annual snowfall is 145 inches. Actually I like snow and wish we had more except for the stupid drivers (see below).

This is a lot for DC (record, duh). Roads are pretty good but there are lots of places even on primary roads with thick ice on them. Also places where your lane suddenly goes away (at 65 mph, that's kinda' fun). Ramps that are not complete so they dump you right into a traffic lane . People still think you can drive 15 over the posted and be safe as usual like it was 95 and sunny. They also like to pull out in front of you with little stopping distance like the streets were clean but here you are riding on 4 inches of solid ice. People do that shit all the time here but they still do it thinking you can stop for them like normal. The other famous one is they still think you can fit 10 cars through a yellow light like you can when things are clear and people are driving 20 over. Problem is now people are going like 35 under so it takes like 5 minutes to get those 10 cars through the light. (stop light cameras have curtailed that, somewhat. )

I'm currently on the west coast but I live in North Potomac MD and my sister said that by just saturday afternoon they had gotten 3 feet of snow. My parents were out of town and are having issues getting back home lol.

It's pretty crazy how much snow we have gotten this year. When I was back during my winter break this year we had already gotten 2 feet of snow in 24 hours.

Yes, we had a record breaker for December this year too. That was maybe 15 inches or so. Baltimore and Philadelphia area is in the bullseye this time. Still expecting 15ish inches.

Actually we get a shit ton more than Buffalo, people thinking that buff gets more than us is a rumor I cant even begin to think of how many times Ive heard.

The majority of our snow comes from lake effect, which is when the warm moisture rising from the great lakes moves over land and gets dumped on us as snow. Buffalo gets their snow from lake erie, which freezes over fairly quickly, so they get a lot of snow early in the season and then it quits. We get our snow from lake ontario, which doesnt freeze because of how deep it is...so although we dont get as much in the very beginning of the year, we quickly catch up to and then pass Buffalo every year. For the whole area it gets cold enough that nothing melts and thats where you see the pictures of ~10 ft snow walls on the side of roads.

Buffalos average is 97, ours is 121, but in the 10 years Ive lived here we've never had that little, and in fact the average has risen quite a bit recently...but yeah this is looking like it will be the first year I've lived here where we don't beat our average by a large margin.
