Keep this ish alive!!!

Figured since most of the people putting stuff in the RTA forum are now GTA supporters I would make a thread thats more or less an internet suggestion box/ open discussion on how to keep T/A alive in the US of A. I could be completely wrong, but I think this is so far the smartest approach to turning around this type of motorsports here in the US.

2 events on each coast (eventually in the Midwest too if it can be supported) that fed the SLB event would probably be the best idea at this point to grow this genre of motorsport. It gives small shops/people a chance to recover from each event and bench race with others involved. This will build hype with all the surrounding groups of people (customers, friends, forums, etc.) which in turn leads to more participation/spectators. That and obviously more advertisement would help, but that costs $$$, which any budding venture needs to keep under lock and key...

One other thing that seems stupid is the fact that that there was no announcer going crazy like there was at the Autobahn RTA event in '09. That alone got 4-5 people I know excited enough to try out a track event. Getting people on track in this industry is the first step to getting them to compete in one of these events.

I hope that GTA can make it work somehow. The people I talked to all seemed very passionate about seeing it succeed, so hopefully it does. Based on the turn-out at Autobahn, it needs NASA to even exist. I would have been there, but my car was illegal and did not have the means to build a whole new car in the 3ish months between confirming I was illegal and the event happening. I WILL be there in 2012 if GTA comes to town again.

Why does a NASA license put you off?

Only 3 reasons exist:

1) Too Lazy
2) Too Cheap
3) Can't Drive well enough to get signed-off...

If your able to, come to the NASA MW event at Road America. You said you were going to run the GTA event but got denied due to license. So the entry/ lodging expenses won't be an issue seeing as how a hotel will be cheaper (NASA/GTA shared the weekend with NASCAR down the street, rooms were $$$) and the entry will be cheaper as well. Bring the car and helmet you were going to run in the TA and enter TT. If you need help classing your car give me a call this weekend I'll go over it with you. Since you have no TT license all you need is a check-ride for the first session and your good to go!

This will solve all issues for the future. I honestly think first-timers would be no bueno during a time attack. Can you imagine the closing speeds of someone not quite sure when to hit the brakes and say Rado's 1k whp car or the GST face-melter macheen!?

Someone getting their feet wet should not be learning how to run TA in that situation IMO. Not to mention GTA does not yet have enough time while piggy-backing NASA events to make a separate run group for n00bs feasible.

I took a one-day classroom/one day on-track drivers school in my ITA RX7 and got tossed in with all the spec miata guys, that was nutty enough. I would have probably killed myself or someone else if I went out in a 135whp shitbox and forgot to check my mirror before turning in on a fast car.

Just sayin...
