Source Interlink Kills Sport Compact Car

With the times the way they are this isnt much of a suprise. Its sad for the industry to see and SCC was actually one of my favorite publications as I loved how technical it was. Below is the info that was posted on Auto Blog about the end of SCC:

From Autoblog:

We just got off the phone with one of our sources inside the Source Interlink monolith who informed us that some of Sport Compact Car's staff was laid off yesterday and that the February issue may be the last SCC you'll find on newsstands. The death of SCC follows Source Interlink's execution of Turbo earlier this year, and reports suggest that 115 employees inside the company have been given the boot and more titles could be axed in the future.

Sport Compact Car was the go-to title for gearheads obsessed with small displacement engines, forced induction, number crunching and the black arts of ECU and suspension tuning, with a dedicated focus on down-and-dirty tech, unique reviews, stellar writing and going fast on a budget. Both the page count and circulation numbers have dropped over the last five years, although according to our sources, ad revenue was up and distribution was holding steady.

On a personal note, SCC was the magazine that got this scribe hooked on driving and the finer points of air-to-fuel ratios, provided me with my first freelance gig and inspired me – primarily through the writings of Dave Coleman, Josh Jacquot, Mike Kojima, Andy Hope, James Tate, John Pearley Huffman and Jared Holstein, among many others – to pursue my dream of writing about cars. SCC will be sorely missed and the world is truly a worse place without it.

Hit the jump to see a list of everyone who has made Sport Compact Car possible over the last two decades.

UPDATE
: We've gotten word that Truck Trend has also been canned. According to our commentators on the inside of Truck Trend, the mag hasn't been cancelled -- it's being "restructured."

We just did a photo shoot with them a month ago, I wonder if it will still be released.

BTW, I just got my latest Turbo magazine, when are they ending?

Very sad. SCC was my favorite mag back in the day. I think they were the first US mag to do a project Subaru.

They had the old project RS...the grey one, before shiv did his white RS project. That is a large factor as to why I got into subaru's to begin with.

that blows...I personally think SCC was the best magazine out and then they reformatted and all the good writers left...then I stopped buying plus the tech articles became water (Formula SAE and motorsports engineering crap) and I only bought the USCC issues then as I still loved the write ups and variety...

when is Turbo going to be dead? I picked up an issue before a flight I had last week.

Great...now what to read.

I've been considering subscribing to a couple other mags for a while now, now its certain.

I wouldn't say it's been all bad, inconsistent maybe, but they've still had mostly good stuff for a while.

Crazy news. Just a month or two ago I did a track test for Interlink in a newer much anticipated car that was supposedly going to be used in SCCM and I was on the schedule to do another data test for them in another much anticipated car.
I wonder if I will still be getting the call from Interlink to do this upcoming track test.

Is this confirmed? Our marketing guy told me yesterday that SCC is not dead.. just that it is being "reorganized", and that some of the staff have been let go...
