Press Release: Introducing Aeromotions R2 Wing

New Computer Controlled Wing Helps Nissan GT-R Win its Maiden Tire Rack One Lap of America

Cambridge, MA: Aeromotions debuted its new wing, the R2, on the 2009 Nissan GT-R of Team Cannonball,
helping the team set a record and secure victory in The Tire Rack’s One Lap of America. Rated to 200 MPH,
the R2 is a computer controlled Dynamic Wing that automatically repositions itself to provide more downforce
during braking and cornering, then changes its angle of attack to minimize drag down the straightaways.
Drivers Will Taylor and Steven Rankins endured the grueling 3,400-mile, 13-state, 8-day event that visits nine
racetracks across the country. During the first event at Tire Rack’s headquarters in South Bend, Indiana, the
GT-R set a record for the event by achieving 0.953 Gs on a wet track. The car was shod with Continental
street tires, JRZ suspension and Aeromotions’ new R2 wing.

Aeromotions has invested hundreds of man hours in testing and tuning their products to complement the GTR’s
aerodynamics through computational fluid dynamics and the One Lap results speak for themselves. Using
a sophisticated electronics package which determines the wing’s best angle of attack for any given moment
and the ability to adjust itself within milliseconds, the wing proved invaluable not only during the first event, but
in the remaining eight.

“While other teams spent twenty minutes every time they wanted to adjust their aero setups for a given track,
we were able to optimize our Aeromotions wing in twenty seconds and ended up with the perfect tune” - Will
Taylor.

The R2 wing uses the same advanced airfoil design found in the Aeromotions split wings and incorporates the
first ever in-cabin remote control to be available outside of top-level professional motorsports. The system’s
processors receive data from sensor packages then compare that data to the Aeromotions-developed vehicle
profile and adjust the wing automatically. For the rare occasion that the driver needs to override the system in
order to reduce downforce and induce oversteer, the in-cabin remote allows the wing angle to be adjusted
with the flip of a switch.

"Aeromotion's unique active wing system raised our cornering speed, shortened our braking zones and
maximized our top speed as well. It was like having a crew chief in the car with us analyzing data and making
wing adjustments in every corner." – Will Taylor

The R2 is available as a complete dynamic wing, or can be purchased as a static wing that can later be
upgraded with the dynamic wing upgrade kit. The Dynamic R2 package retails for $3,250 and the Static,
upgradeable, wing is available for $1,699. The static R2 is a highly efficient wing by itself, with the
Aeromotions low-drag, high-downforce airfoil.

Definitely a sweet set-up. Will showed this to me during One Lap and was highly complimentary of the unit and the company as a whole!

I like the concept of this wing. I would like to see it win some time attacks. That's where the fat lady sings. I have some concept's for servo active aero that i want to try later this year myself. But not this extreme.

Well it did just win the One Lap!

You can check out their times for each track, just keep in mind it was wet the first part of the week. Also remember that the One Lap format is a standing start and 3 hot laps.

You can also look at some lap times on their (GTR's) homepage. www.cannonballgtr.com

Esentially the times for this car would be street AWD times in RTA. I don't think the GTR is relegated to Mod class, but it may be.... That wouldn't be a complete comparison for mod since they were on street tires for the One Lap (ContiSC3's to be precise).

The data on their site seems a little inconclusive to me. The fastest laps were the last ones of the day which also were the ones with the active aero?

You need laps to learn about changes to the car, then those learning laps lead to better lines, better practice and better lap times in themselves. It's not like the car was faster in one lap than the previous by the data. And the driving looks inconsistent. I am not a data analysis expert maybe someone can tell me I'm stupid.
