Redline TA Round #6 Results

The 2008 Redline Time Attack Series headed to Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia for Round #6 of the series. Round #5 champions Top Speed and their dominating Subaru Brighton were able to pull off their second overall victory in a row with their driver Luke Russell blasting out a time of 1:30.503, an incredibly fast time for the Shenandoah Circuit, just shy of the record set by the JIC Hankook Porsche GT2 at last year's event. Top Speed wouldn't earn their victory without a fight though as Philip Grabow and the Element Tuning Subaru STI were nipping at their heels finishing less than a half a second behind! Third place overall went to James Elterman and the Takata Time Attack Subaru STI with an impressive 1:33.247 setting a new Modified and Modified AWD track record!

The Unlimited Class was out in full force at this event and the challenging track, including jump....yes I said jump, would test the cars and drivers to the fullest! The overall Unlimited and Unlimited AWD title went to event champion Luke Russell and the Top Speed Subaru Brighton closely followed by Philip Grabow and the Element Tuning STI. Rounding out the podium for Unlimited AWD was the DTMotorsports Mitsubishi Evolution of Chad Koslow with a 1:54.744. The Unlimited RWD class was dramatic to say the least as three of the six cars entered failed to finish. One of those cars who was taken out of the competition by a tire wall was Round #3 and Round #4 winner Scott Bush in the BC Racing Infiniti G35 Coupe. Sharif Abdelbaset and the Forged Performance Nissan 350Z took top honors in Unlimited RWD with a 1:36.779 followed by Mark Simmons and his Aerial Atom a little over three seconds behind. Coming in behind Simmons was the TopDocs.com Lotus Super 7 driven by Michael Doughery. Unlimied FWD was once again dominated by Chris Rado and the World Racing / NOS Energy Drink Scion tC with a time of 1:36.247, but putting up an impressively close time in 2nd place was Ross Miller and the PTuning Scion tC, who unfortunately also had an encounter with the wall later in the session. Rounding out the Unlimited FWD podium was Greg Almeda in the DTMotorsports Dodge Stratus.

The Modified Class was once again won by James Elterman and the Takata Time Attack Subaru STI making this his second overall Modified and Modified AWD class win in a row! Following a few seconds behind was Robert "Robi" Fuller in the Robispec / Forged Performance Mitsubishi Evolution with a 1:35.789 and Paul Szuba and the P&L Motorsports / Enduratech Subaru STI with a 1:37.212. Modified RWD saw a huge number of competitors, but taking the win was Robert "Robi" Fuller, this time in the Team Philthy / Robispec Infiniti G35 Coupe with a 1:36.569 followed by Scott Burner's Honda S2000 with a 1:37.858 and Peter Farrell in the Peter Farrell's Supercars Mazda RX7 with a 1:38.289. Modified FWD saw another win from Ross Miller and the PTuning Scion tC with a time of 1:38.609 dominating over second place finisher Stephen Pilkerton in the Funktion Auto / Omega Race Honda Civic almost seven seconds behind. Following Pilkerton was Justin Crenshaw in the PTuning Nissan Sentra with a 1:45.847, just 0.347 seconds behind Pilkerton.

The Street Class saw a new Street Class record get set as Rich Johnston in his DTMotorsports Mitsubishi Evolution VIII cranked out a 1:38.503 which landed him the Overall Street Class and Street AWD class win! Behind him in Street AWD was the Atlantic Motorsports / Robispec Mitsubishi Evolution driven by Whit Staples and for the third podium this event, Robert "Robi" Fuller in another Robispec Mitsubishi Evolution. Street RWD proved to be a lot more competitive than it was at Round #5 as previous winner Jeff Bender and the Tri-State Racing Nismo 350Z finished fifth. The win, however, went to Josh Taylor in his Classic GT Motorsports/RightFootDown.com Chevrolet Corvette with a time of 1:41.195, closely followed by Wayne Moubray in the Funktion Auto BMW 325 with a 1:41.311 and Scott Knott in the Tax-Whistleblower.com Lotus Elise with a 1:41.993. Street FWD saw domination again by Michael Ostby in the GT Motoring Acura RSX with a 1:42.195 over four seconds ahead of Jeff Bender in the Tri State Racing Honda Civic Si and over five seconds quicker than the third place finisher Matthew Anderson in the ECM Tuning Mitsubishi Eclipse.

Its hard to believe that the 2008 season is nearing an end, but the next event for the points chase will be the Series Finals held October 3-5 at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) in conjunction with GT Live. There is rumored to be a non-points "dash for the cash" event presented by Mazda in September however, and is scheduled to be held in New Jersey!

Thanks for the update!

How did this happen:

Overall Street:
Rich Johnson - DTMotorsports Mitsubishi Evolution VIII - 1:38.503

with only 1 car in street awd and it wasnt him, it was:

Street AWD:
1 Scott Siegel - Top Speed Subaru STI - 1:12.644

...and does that 1:12.644 include some kind of shortcut?

I agree, and am sory about your car. Is it totalled? But you have to admit that it is a little easier to swallow when it was your own driving error, VS a stupid easily fixable part failure.... like slipping on a peice of fiberglass from your own front bumper.

But you are correct atleast we are all alright

I dont think its totaled, and I'm sure the cage transferring the force helped. The guys all said had the cage not been in the car, it would have been a LOT worse. All the stuff in the front is gone, IC, rad, oil cooler, all toast.

I'll keep you all informed, but we are really gunning to see you all at VIR.

This weekend convinced me that I need a cage. Anyone know of any good fabricators that can do a good job for a reasonable (I know that's a relative term) price?

I'm really glad I went out to this track though, as treacherous as it was, I feel like I came away a much better driver having been on this track.
