New to All.. moving to SoCal from Florida..

Hello.. My name is Tony..

I am moving to Southern California and know nothing about the racing scene there. I am looking forward to (1) first of all getting a job there.. thats important.. and (2) building a Time Attack worthy car.. I'm looking forward to meeting some friendly enthusiasts around the area that could tell me where i could AutoX the car until it is race ready for Time Attack.

A little about myself... my car..
2008 was the first year my brother, Robert, and I raced competitively in AutoX.. We finished well with 1st and 3rd place in Street Mod. Great beginning.. I am leaving my car in Florida so he can continue using the car for 2009 and try to do our first National Events. I am taking his 02 WRX to California and will build it slowly from scratch..

Most likely end up in Unlimited class next year because i don't want two sets of wheels while i am still learning the time attack route..

I guess thats it.. i'm happy there is a site where i can hopefully learn from everyone..

Thanks,
Tony

Welcome. Where in socal are you going to? Pretty large place. GL with the build. btw, is the only car you have going to be the one you build or are you looking to buy a DD as you're looking at unlimited class?

I will be in Long Beach .. Cerritos area for a few months.. Depending where my job will be, most likely in around Burbank.. who knows.. I will then move again. I move to California right after the new year..

The WRX will be my daily driver.. The only reason i say it will be in the Unlimited class instead of Mod is that i will be mainly autoXing the car. The setup i am used to on my old car is 275 V710s.. So i will be in SM for autoX and will try out Time Attack on those wheels as well. From what i just read on Redline's site, Slicks are only for Unlimited.. i don't want to spend more money with another set of wheels and tires to test my first year as i build it. When i become competitive.. i would like to compete in the Modified class.. That way i don't need crazy horsepower.. or have to race those seasoned Pros..

Welcome to the site. I'm confused about what class you plan to compete in time attack in though.

Cool. All of those locations are littered with evo's and sti's so you'll fit right in, ahah. Some cities like Burbank are anal with exhaust and modded cars in general(well, imports usually). Long Beach and Cerritos are fine. I daily drive my evo with a straight pipe and imo, if you just know how to drive it right without making it seem like you're going, you'll be fine. Anyway, gl experimenting with what suits you. As we all know there isn't a one size fits all type of setup so have fun with all that.

Sorry for the confusion.. maybe i'll just show up and they will point me to the rookie sign..

and about the Burbank thing.. I should be fine. I wasn't going to bring any of my cars bcz you guys have emissions tests.. , but i would die living on the west coast and not using its resources.. shops.. events..

Yep, all me in my li'l ol' 2006 STI, although I couldnt have done any of it without lots of help from many friends and sponsors. I first raced it in 2007 and had a good start that turned into a really good year for me and my team this year. I also couldn't have had any success without organizations such as Redline , NASA, Speedventures, and Superlap etc. My background is mostly motorcycle racing and some Karting. I still race MX with my boys between injuries....

I'm SoCal too, send me a note when you get settled and we can go hit up a track day or two. I do my own prep and suspension work and help others too. Let me know if you want some help in that department. As you know, Subies are unique in their setup and handling needs.
