I doubt that a 2007 Grand-Am GT spec 350Z can come out of retirement and challenge for the Unl overall at Redline/SLB as-is, especially with the gains seen in TA recently.
However, if they add some power, reduce some weight, run better tires, and bring their full crew including big $$ engineers and their paid driver, then I bet they will be able to challenge for the overall (assuming they have solved the teething issues that plagued this car when it was raced in 2007)
Either way, I would love to see them come out and race! Just watching how a pro team operates would be a great learning expirience for the TA regulars who havent ever seen a pro team work up close.

J-C this car raced with the VQ right? I'd imagine they must have done a TON to get it even to GT power levels without boost, compared to other engines in the class. I'm somewhat surprised they didn't go the VK v8 route like the H-L G35, though that car also had engine troubles among other problems.

It really depends. The car would have more power in Rolex trim than anything in Unlimited RWD right now (and either comparable or slightly less than most of the beasts in Unl AWD) but would carry lots more weight than an S2000 or NSX.
It'd thrive at Willow Springs and at Fontana if the big oval is used. Elsewhere, not so much. the new Z's have always been heavy, but if they can pare it down to 2800lbs or less, it could be a pretty serious contender.

Yep, VQ. They actually got permission to develop a 4 liter motor but that's when the problems cropped up. I believe they had about 400hp and were targeting about 450hp (NA of course) Aren't there some TA 350Z's running in the 700whp range already?
As for weight, they were already allowed 2600lbs with full CF body.
They will need to drop even more weight and add more power to be competitive with Factor X, BC-S2K, M-1 350Z, and all the fast awd unl guys.
2-16 Nissan 350 Z (Prep 1 and 2)
2-16.1 3.5 Liter VQ35DE,13:1 compression,RRZ31-Spec 2 heads, 515/264 In,485/250 Ex.
Camshaft, 38 lb crank piton /rod 902 gms.
2-16.2 Tire sizes are 285/645-18 front and 305/660R18 rear.
2-16.3 Minimum weight prep 1: 2600 lbs.

JC, I will respectfully disagree with you on your last statement. 400whp and 2600lbs with amazing suspension setup, the best brakes money can buy and a pro driver would cream just about any other car out there. Think about it, how hard is 700hp to put to the ground? Those cars are also much heavier (the BC-2sk is lighter, but is also making similar power), have "Street brakes" and setups that are not anywhere near Rolex/Speed WC standards.
not that this video is a great illiustration of power vs setup.. but its not bad
