Unlimited Class Tires: OPEN

Hello Everyone,

Chris and I have made the decision to OPEN the Unlimited Class when it comes to tires. We felt this was in the best interest of our competitors, as we were running into a few roadblocks with getting tire companies to provide the minimum financial support requested to become an eligible brand. Rather than only have 1 or 2 tire companies in Unlimited, and SCREW a ton of our Unlimited teams, we figured we'd open it up.

There are still a few rules that MUST be met and adhered to.

You can find the reference to the revised rules in the Unlimited Class section of the rules:

People have been shelling out gobs of cash to buy tires anyways... but now we've limited the number of tires they can use each day of an event...

A "sponsored" team with a stack of 24 tires isn't legal any more... Or, I guess they can have the stack there, to look at. But they can only use 8 of them on Sunday... ;-)

^^^ So for example, the Hankook C91's (or equivelent) would not be allowed this year unless they solve their supply issues they had last year?

Also, what will be the definition of "available to everyone"? Will it be Tire Rack/Discount tires or what source(s)?

I would think any commercial business selling their tires to those with the money to buy them. Back-Order status will not likely be a qualifier as to "available to everyone". JMHO

The number of tire companies able to supply everyone an unlimited tire are very few because its not a high volume tire for them. They build enough tires to sell, not to sit around in a warehouse. They are not going to build 300-400 tires just so they can run Redline. There are a few companies that might be able to do that.

The net of all this is that means less tire company support, which means less money for teams, which means less competitors, and in the end it just hurts the series. What is the answer? Not sure, but it seems at this point in the life of the series and the state of the economy is to open the tire rule up to everyone or make it a spec tire series.

I like competing in redline but I don't have to, so what ever they end up doing is what it is. But if they really open it up, they will see more teams, drivers, sponsors, and overall support for the series.

Just my 2 cents and yes its biased

The tires are "open".... but tires must still be available to the general public...

So the Falken slicks are not eligible... Unless they make their tires available to folks to purchase, or shit, even give them away for free to anyone who wants em.... Just so long as ANY competitor running in Unlimited can get their hands on a specific brand/model....
