What to expect with R6's at Road Atlanta in Dec.

We've have been running R6's all season, and also use them for open track day practice. With Road Atlanta temps probably around 40-50F in December, can you guys give me some feedback on how the A6's will behave? I assume the drop off in performance will be more subtle, but any practical advise would be appreciated. We'll be doing a NASA TT, and I want to be as fast as possible, but not have to bring a million tires to the track. Ideally, I want ot use one set of Hoosiers, and maybe one set of crap to practice on.

A6's wear/heat cycle out REALLY fast, so best bet is to have one set of something for practice and only strap on the A's for the TT. I'd say 5-10 heat cycles on the A's and they will be shot, Vs the R's car do nearly twice that. On the A's you cant run 20min on them either. I know a lot of T1 guys set their pole laps on lap 2-3 on A's and then they toss them (these are big money guys) this is because A's just cannot survive full 20+ minute sessions on track. They will heat up faster, and provide a little more grip over the R's.

Hope this helps.

Good points Ross. Curious if they will hold out just a little bit longer with the colder track temps.

A6's should be fine in those cold temps. Just be smooth on them as they don't like sliding. R6's would most likely take 2-3 laps to come up to temp, where as the a6's should be up to temp in 1-2 laps. Typically we get about 2 heat cycles out of the a6's before their overall grip starts to fall off. R6's last about 10 heat cycles before they start to loose grip.

We usually only run about 20-30 laps on a set of A6's before they are done.
